Veteran India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has heaped massive praise on ace India speedster Jasprit Bumrah. Yuvraj believes that Bumrah does not have an option but to be the best bowler for whatever team he plays. The erstwhile cricketer is of the opinion that Bumrah gets his ability to stay on top of this game by evolving himself with the demands of the modern-day game.
The former cricketer has praised Bumrah for his capability to impress everyone with his variation, especially with the deceptive action that he possesses. According to the 44-year-old, the batters who are known to be fearless in the modern-day way of playing the game are scared to take down the charge against Bumrah and turn to playing watchfully when facing the Ahmedabad-born.
“If you look at the way the game is evolving, Jasprit Bumrah has to be the best. Because he’s been consistently… batsmen are not going after him. They’re also like scared to go after him because they feel like rotating the strike and hitting the other bowlers. And the moment they want to go after him, it doesn’t allow them. So he’s just really smart. Obviously he’s got great skills as well. Slow ball the balls. And he’s got a deceptive action, you know. It’s hard to like pick his lower one out of his hand,” Yuvraj told on Stick to Cricket podcast with Michael Vaughan.
Yuvraj reminisced on facing Bumrah in the nets during his active days of playing with the Men in Blue. Bumrah was only a teenager back then but bowled quick enough and with outstanding accuracy to pose troubles for the accomplished left-handed batter.
“Well, when I was trying to make a comeback in the team, when he was about 16 years old and he was bowling rapid in the nets. So what year would that have been? That would have been…
2013. Right. And I was like, ‘I want this kid out of the nets. Stop bowling to me’,” Yuvraj added.
Notably, Bumrah is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. With the league in its nineteenth edition, Bumrah would be eager to make an impact and hand the Mumbai-based franchise their sixth trophy.
